I've been sick and having some other health issues so I didn't get as much done as I wanted. I did get a lot of knitting practice in. When I feel bad and try to knit anyway I usually mess up a lot and have to redo it. I just call that knitting practice which I can always use. I started knitting a baby blanket for my niece's new baby and it was more challenging than I expected. I had to tink back and fix mistakes a lot and I improvised corrections in a few places. I finally got irritated and tore the whole thing out. I'll start over when I feel better. I haven't knit for a while so I guess I'm pretty rusty. I don't want to send her a blanket full of mistakes. A hundred years from now my niece's family would be passing around my handiwork saying... God bless her, at least she tried.
I found a headband pattern (Wheat Headband) and made two with the green yarn. I still have enough yarn to make one or two more. Wouldn't you know that little skein is not enough yarn to make most things but when I finally find something it is suddenly way too much. Well, now my sister and I will both have one of these and possibly a few nieces/cousins etc. At least this pattern is easy. I have been having a lot of dizziness and headaches or migraines (side effects of a new medication). I can knit this pattern with a headache and while watching TV. What's that Kelly Clarkson song? What doesn't kill me makes me.... crazy?
On a side note, I did win at Bingo a week ago. I'd been going occasionally with my husband. We tease each other about trying to steal the money from the old people even though we fit right in lol We have both gotten so close with only 1 ball needed on multiple cards and someone else calls bingo every time. This was the last game for the night and I was already checked out. Then my husband said you got it about 3 times, nudging me, and I was confused... I got what, looking at my hands. He said, that's your ball. I look up and was stunned. I won a $1000 bingo and no one else called. I'm still stunned.Well, there will be more fun to come. I am hoping I will start feeling better so I can get some real work done.
Oh my goodness, that's a big prize. Any special plans for it? I'm sorry you aren't feel well. Hope this week is better. The baby blanket yarn looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteI had already bought some new clothes earlier that day so I just put the money in the bank. I am also planning to upgrade my smart watch soon so this will cover that. Anything left over will just stay in the bank. It was a great surprise.
Delete1000 dollars! Well done you. Sorry about the migraines. They have been plaguing me this week too. I blame the heat. Hope you feel better soon. I know when I try to knit with the headache I just get into a terrible muddle. Sorry you had to frog, but I am sure when you are feeling better the pattern will flow more easily.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it was a shock to actually win. I've ordered my new smart watch and I do have a good amount left over to keep in savings. I like to have a rainy day fund but I know that's going to end up buying yarn.
DeleteWow, 1000, thats quite the win; congratulations! The headband is very pretty. I like the gradient yarn you used.
ReplyDeleteThank you. It was exciting. I do love that yarn and wish I had more of it. It is neat to see how the color flows from one shade into the next with each stitch.
Delete$1000! Congratulations! I feel your pain as you knit, tinked, corrected, and eventually frogged the baby blanket, but I had to chuckle at the "Bless her heart" comment. 36 years ago, my mom asked her sister (who had the beginnings of dementia) to crochet a baby blanket for my first born. She had probably made 100 beautiful blankets, prior to dementia, but that blanket made for my baby was crooked and the stitches uneven. I loved that blanket. I suspect it meant more to me than had it been perfectly finished. I totally understand you frogging yours (I would have too), but I had to tell you my story. 😊
ReplyDeleteOh I know what you mean. Just knowing they made it means a lot. I don't remember my maternal grandmother before she had dementia. We moved to Alaska when I was 3 and she was in Georgia. When I finally got to see her she was close to 90 and had alzheimer's. She didn't know any of us then. I found out later that I'm a lot like her. When I learned how to tat and posted a bookmark I made on facebook and one of my aunts sent me a little tatted baby bootie that she found. It was stashed away in a letter sized envelope with the shuttle still attached. That means so much to me. I also have a blanket my mom was crocheting for me just before she died. It has mistakes and coffee stains on it and it wasn't finished. I found it, figured out what kind of yarn it was and finished it. That blanket and the crochet hook she used are very special to me.
DeleteWell that must have been an exciting surprise to win at Bingo and cheer you up from being poorly. The headbands will be useful and are pretty. Hopefully you’ll feel better soon and can tackle the blanket again. Liz (Highlandheffalump)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm starting to feel better.
